These two berths will be managed and operated by Guangzhou South China Oceangate Container Terminal Company Limited ("Joint Venture Company") of which COSCO Ports (Nansha) Limited, a subsidiary of COSCO Pacific Limited ("COSCO Pacific" or the "Company"), is the majority stakeholder. COSCO Ports (Nansha) Limited and Guangzhou Port Group Co. Ltd hold 59% and 41% equity interest of the Joint Venture Company respectively, while A.P. Moller-Maersk Group holds 33.9% equity interest of COSCO Ports (Nansha) Limited.

The Joint Venture Company will build, manage and operate six berths (No. 5-10) of Nansha (Phase II) Terminal with handling capacity of 4.2 million TEU. Total quay length of the terminal is 2,100m with a total yard area of about 2.17 million m2. The range of its water depth alongside is from 14.5m to 17m. All of the six berths are expected to be in operation by the end of 2007.

Nansha Port is located in Guangzhou with its hinterland of the Pearl River Delta which is one of the well developed economic zones in China. During the period from January to October of this year, Guangzhou Port handled approximately 5.4 million TEU rose by 46% while Nansha Port recorded 2 million TEU which was more than double in compare with last year. The City Municipal Government has an aggressive plan to develop Nansha as a major port area in Guangzhou. Given the commencement of new berths in operation and the increasing numbers of international shipping routes calling at the terminals, the container throughput of Nansha port is expected to continue to grow significantly.
